A request has been made for the creation of Edu State out of the current Kwara and Niger States at the just concluded zonal public hearing on the 1999 constitution that was organized by the Federal House of Representatives.
The Zonal public hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution had Representatives of different groups from Kwara, Kogi and Niger in attendance which was held at the Kogi State Government House.
In his presentation, Manzuma Mammah, a Nupe from Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State made known the desire of Nupe folks in the two states to have a state of their own carved out of both Kwara and Niger States to form Edu State.
The agitation for the creation of Edu State has been a perenial one with Prof Jerry Gana having led the movement in 2012 to submit a proposal at the National Assembly. When created, the new state will have her State capital in Bida(present day Niger State).
Currently, Edu is a Local Government Area in Kwara State with Headquarters in Lafiagi Town and a land mass of 2542Km².1247
