FG to establish NITT office in Kwara

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Transportation, has expressed its commitment to enhancing the transportation sector by establishing the Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) branch office in Kwara State.

The Minister of State for Transportation, Gbemisola Ruqayyah Saraki disclosed this on her Facebook page on Thursday.

The minister, while announcing the establishment of the institute of the institute’s branch office which is located at Lasoju community at Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, couldn’t conceal how delighted she felt about the development.

“With Transportation being one of the critical infrastructural sectors in improving our economic competitiveness, and a priority area for the President Muhamadu Buhari-led administration, the Federal Government is expanding the stock and quality of our road, rail, air, and water transport infrastructure through the Ministry of Transportation and its agencies,” she wrote.

“The cat is out of the bag… The plan had been to wait till the official groundbreaking of the site before going public with the news, but clearly, the Lasoju community could not contain their joy in having a Federal Agency establish within their community.

“One such agency expanding itself into Kwara State is the Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), who is planting roots for its Kwara State centre in Lasoju, Otte/Ballah ward of Asa Local Government.

“I will soon have the honour to do the ground breaking of this office as well as commission the other three new NITT centres in Kano, Ebonyi and Gombe States.

“Back in 1956, NITT was conceived as a Railway Training Institute and later expanded to serve as a Multi-modal Institute covering rail, road, water, air, and pipelines. It is the apex management development institute for transport and logistics in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

“We look forward to the completion of this new centre as well.”
