The founder of ASR Initiative, Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR) today said construction of the N2.5bn oncology and diagnostic centre donated to Kwara State Government is slated to begin in August and ready for completion 12 months after, adding that the specialist facility would be the best in West Africa region for the treatment of cancer.
He was represented at the event by the Group Executive Director of the BUA Group Alhaji Kabir Rabiu.
The businessman said the facility would complement the huge investments of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in human capital development and the health sector, describing the recently concluded intensive care unit (ICU) facility of the administration as a watershed.
AbdulRazaq, for his part, commended the ASR chief for his huge donations and other supports to the state, including another N1bn to the University of Ilorin.
The Governor said the administration has been deliberate in revamping the health sector to make the state the go-to place for medical tourism in the north and some southwestern states.
He said the initiative will be another major attraction for the General Hospital Ilorin and the state also a big deal for healthcare stating that Kwara will become the hub of medical tourism especially in specialist care for states like Niger, Kogi, Osun and some parts of southwest like Oyo and Ekiti States.
Health Commissioner Dr Raji Rasaq said the present administration places high premium on health sector and it is enjoying the support of relevant donors.
He added that Kwara is now a fertile state, unlike in the past when it was rejected by donors and that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is prioritising the health sector also attracting all the support that is necessary.
The Executive Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr Nusirat Elelu commended the ASR Africa Initiative for choosing Kwara for the laudable initiative.
She said since the news broke that Kwara State will be playing host to the largest oncology centre in West Africa, the state have been agog with a lot of congratulatory messages and she confident that Kwara State will be a delightful host.118
