Hushpuppi’s Trial Set To Begin U.S

The trial of the popular Nigerian Instagram Celebrity, Ramon Abbas is set to begin on October 13, 2020 after being arraigned in an American Court in California.

Hushpuppi had pleaded not guilty to the four-count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering conspiracies, international money laundering and engaging in monetary transactions in property derived from specified unlawful activity.

He was earlier arrested in June in Dubai by special operatives of the Emirate Police and America Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), after a thorough investigation of his flamboyant lifestyle he displays on his Instagram page.

The FBI investigation according to an Affidavit made available online, alleged that Mr Ramon Abbas financed his opulence lifestyle through crime.

The group which he allegedly led facilitates computer intrusion, business email compromise (BEC) fraud and money laundering.

Majority of his victims had been duped of million of dollars, says the FBI.

In July, Mr Abbas alongside Olalekan Ponle, popularly known as Woodberry, was extradited to Chicago in the United States where he was first arraigned.

However, He was transferred to Los Angeles, a city in California due to the fact that the U.S. Court in Illinois does not have jurisdiction over the case.

He has been held in the custody of the U.S. Marshal in a Federal Prison since his transfer to California in July.

After his appearance in court on August 17 the prosecutor kick started the process of arraignment by filling necessary documents and forms.

Mr Ramon has hired the service of Vicki Podberesky, a top-rated lawyer in California for his trial and will be assisted by Gal Pissetzky, a Chicago-based lawyer appearing pro hac vice because he is not licensed to practise outside Chicago.

However, he has filed  a waiver of indictment accepted by the court wherein he pleaded that he should be prosecuted with complaint and not indictment.
