Ilorin Global Shapers Community Hub Launch, Kwara State Deputy Governor Commends Youths on Initiative

The Kwara State Deputy Governor Mr. Kayode Alabi has commended Kwara Youths for taking up the herculean task of bringing the Global Shapers Community to the state at this period.

This statement was contained in a speech delivered on Saturday 10th July 2021 through his representative, Mrs. Bolaji Onietan, General Manager, Kwara State Tourism Board at an event themed ‘’ Harnessing Youth Power to Drive Innovation and Development in a Post-COVID Era’’ which was organized by the Hub for the official launch of the Ilorin Global Shapers Community.

The Deputy Governor noted that through the deliberate efforts of the state at engaging the youths, the State has engendered the manifestations and gains of youthful resourcefulness that young people bring to the table of leadership across all spheres of life.

He further shared his happiness at the birth of the Ilorin Global Shapers Community and also commended the philosophy behind the Global Shapers Community. He charged the founding members of the Hub to hit the ground running and do all they can with the resources they have while giving no heed or focus to things which they think they do not have.

The event which was graced by major youth stakeholders who are germane to the development of the state had in attendance the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Sustainable Development, Dr. Jamila Bio, the Technical Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Mr. AbdulQuawiy Olododo, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Geographic Information System, Mr. AbdulMutalib Shittu and other guests.

While discussing the theme of the event, Mr. AbdulRahaman Jogbojogbo, Product Marketer of PayStack took his time to explain the concept of youths and also demystify the need for youths to wait for anyone to harness their power. He noted that the power of the youths lies in their ability to maximize their numbers and get themselves engaged in influencing the policies and political process which often have an influence on them than the older generation.

Mr. Olasupo Abideen, the founder of KnowCovid while engaging the audience hinged on the need for youths to get involved in the development process irrespective of the challenges they would face. He further encouraged them to be innovative in providing solutions to various developmental problems in their community.

The Hub Founding Curator, Shaper AbdulQudus Oyindamola while introducing the Ilorin Global Shapers Community to the audience highlighted some of the various community development projects which the Hub intends to embark upon which include Harmony Initiative, Graduate Employability Project, Climate Action projects e.t.c He further stated the need for various stakeholders in the public and private sector to be ready to open their doors as the hub goes all out seeking partnership towards implementing some of the hub projects.
