The Kwara State Chapter of the Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association has pleaded with the Kwara State Government to expedite action on the release of a member of the Profession that was abducted on Monday alongside two other farm workers in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The Statement appealed to the Kwara State Government to upgrade the Security architecture around Poultry and Agricultural Estates in the State as they have now become targets of criminal elements.
The statement reads in parts,
“The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association has received with rude shock, the abduction of a member of our Association- a Resident Veterinary Doctor and two other farm workers in Pampo, Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday, March 22, 2021.”
“That we as an Association, do acknowledge the intervention of the State Government and the various security apparatuses in ensuring that the victims of this wicked and dastardly act are rescued unhurt, a development that is well appreciated by the leadership of the Association.”
“Furthermore, as an Association, we are calling on all relevant security agents to strengthen the security safety net while all stakeholders in the livestock production sector should work together as partners to deny criminal elements safe habitation as safety and security is a collective responsibility to ensure the threat to food safety and security is mitigated.”
“Conclusively, we are enjoining the Government to ensure our member and other identified farm workers are rescued and to also beef up security architectures around livestock production estates to forestall future occurrences as cases of abductions and kidnappings is becoming, one too many.”463
