In what has been described by keen followers of the polity in Kwara State as arbitrariness and governance shrouded in secrecy, the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has appointed seven(7) Special Advisers against the Approval of the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Recall that the Governor had in December dissolved members of his cabinet, a move that was described by many as merely political cosmetics rather than the quest for good governance and service delivery from the appointees.
According to a reliable information obtained by Harmony Times, the Kwara State Governor had written to the House of Assembly seeking the permission and approval of the Legislative arm for the appointment of Special Advisers into his Cabinet. The number of Special Advisers requested could not be independently verified but Harmony Times reliably gathered that the House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon Danladi Salihu approved the appointment of 3 Special Advisers on the 9th of February, 2021.
The House of Assembly recently came under fire for the indiscriminate approval given to the Governor with regards to the 35 Billion Naira loan. A move that has earned the 9th Assembly as a Rubber Stamp willing to do the bidding of Governor at the detriment of the public.
An assessment of the newly appointed Special Advisers showed that 6 of them were reappointed and redeployed while the 7th appointee was until his appointment, a staff of Lagos based, Channels Television.
The reappointed Special Advisers and their portfolios are,
- Prof. Kunle Dunmade, Kwara South, SA Health.
- Mr. Attahiru Ibrahim Kwara North, SA Health.
- Brigadier General Saliu T. Bello, Kwara South, SA Security.
- Mr. Ahmed Yinka Aluko, Kwara Central, SA Special Duties.
- Mr. Saadu Salau, Kwara Central, SA Strategy.
- Mr. Abdullateef Alakawa, Kwara Central, SA Political.
The seventh appointee who appears to be the fresh blood among the Special Advisers is a University of Ibadan graduate, from Ifelodun LGA and a staff of Channels TV – Mr. Bashir Adigun, Kwara South, SA Political Communication.
The appointment is coming barely 70 days after the dissolution of the State Executive Council.203
