The labour union in Kwara State, will stage a protest on Wednesday in Ilorin, in compliance with the directive of the national body over minimum wage issue.
This was confirmed by the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Isa Ore, on Tuesday.
Ore, when asked if the state NLC chapter will partake in the demonstration, replied: “Yes, now, we are complying, we are mobilising our members to converge on the NLC labour House, Ilorin in the morning. Tomorrow, by 7 a.m, we are gathering at the Labour House to do the rally.”
The protest, according to the national body of the NLC is against moves by the National Assembly to remove the minimum wage from the exclusive list to the concurrent list.
Meanwhile, our correspondent confirmed from an official of the NLC in Ilorin, that the state government, has commenced payment of the new minimum wage to junior workers in the state’s civil service.
However, the consequential adjustments for the senior workers from grade level 07 and above are still being worked out by the labour movement and the state government.220
