The Kwara State Government has vowed to deal decisively with all unregistered slaughter slab operators across the State.
The Press Secretary of the State Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development, Yusuf Ganiyu Adebisi, disclosed this in a press statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hajia Maryam Nurudeen Mohammed gave this warning through the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Olugbon Abdullateef Saliman.
Hajia Mohammed said “The illegal activities of these butchers are hampering the policy thrust of the present administration on food safety and protection of public health in the State.”
The statement further directed those operating on illegal or unregistered slabs to quit such activities and register them with the Ministry to enable the veterinary officers conduct thorough meat inspection on the slaughtered animals meant for the public consumption in view of it health implications.
According to the statement, the ministry will soon embarked on the enforcement exercise and close down all the illegal slabs to ensure compliance.327
