Ondo Election: Over 5000 card readers destroyed in fire outbreak

The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that at least 5,141 card readers were burnt as fire gutted the commission’s head office in Akure, Ondo State capital.

According to Premium Times, the fire which broke out at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, gutted the container housing smart card readers for the October 10 governorship election as Festua Okoye, the commission’s spokesperson alongside other staffs made frantic effort to quench the fire.

However, in a new development, the Commission Spokesman confirmed Friday morning that no fewer than 5,141 card readers were burnt in the inferno.

The Ondo State Gubernatorial election will be conducted on the 10th of October 2020.
