The Kwara state government has commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims of the rainstorm that ravaged the state last week in Ilorin. The relief materials include roofing sheets and nails among other building materials.
The Government team was led by the Special Assistant to the the Governor on Domestic affairs who reassured the victims of government’s readiness to alleviate the suffering that was occasioned by the devastating rainstorm that besieged the state last weekend.
The distribution of the relief materials is coming on the heels of a tour by the Governor in Ilorin after he had briefed President Muhammadu Buhari of the havoc that was wrecked by the natural disaster. The Governor had claimed that, about 15,000 households and 357 communities were estimated to have been destroyed by the Rainstorm and flood.
But in a related development, some victims of the rainstorm berated the Kwara state government for neglecting them. In a viral video, Aminat Saadu alongside other women said they have not received any support from the state government. The video had so far generated criticism and aspersions at the state government.
HarmonyTimes, in a bid to seek government’s stand on the viral video, reached out to Olayinka Fafoluyi, Special Assistant (New Media) to the Kwara state Governor but as at the time of reporting, he is yet to respond to the messages sent him.142
