Rising Insecurity: Gunmen kidnap Farm Workers in Kwara

Gunmen on Saturday afternoon invaded a farm in pampo, Asa Local Government Area, a settlement known to host a significant number of Poultry farms in the State. A development that has since thrown the community into palpable tension.

Insecurity in the state had peaked over the last few months with major kidnappings reported in Asa Local Government, a border Local Government Area with Oyo State, A state that recently witnessed the expulsion of herdsmen by locals.

Harmony Times gathered that the Gunmen had invaded Baffort Farm, a sister farm to Mamass farm both in Pampo all in a spirited effort to kidnap the owner of the farm but when his presence on the farm could not be ascertained, the Gunmen kidnapped Two of their staffs with unconfirmed report identifying the staffs as a Veterinary Technologist and Poultry Supervisor.

A source that do not want his name in print indicated that the Gunmen visited other Farms as well in the Pampo axis of Asa LGA with the Farm Manager of Mirola Farms still missing. It was however gathered that, the Police and Vigilante members are currently guarding the farm while effort is being made to rescue the victims.

Harmony Times gathered that contact had been established with the victims and the Kidnappers are demanding the sum of Fifteen Million Naira for each victim before they will be released.

It can be recalled that one Alhaji Odewale Suleiman, owner of Olomu Farm around Sokoto-Oko in Asa LGA was kidnapped some months ago with a ransom of Ten Million Naira paid to the Kidnappers.

Few weeks ago, some Fulani herdsmen invaded the palace of the Baale of Sokoto-Oko with gunshots fired into the air. The absence of the Traditional Head got the suspected kidnappers to hold for ransom, his Junior brother and one of his wives. The community eventually paid Three Million Naira before the victims could be released.
