Former Senate President and the Peoples Democratic Party Chieftain, Senator Bukola Saraki has called for the immediate reversal of Honorable Jimoh Raheem Agboola’s suspension by the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Saraki, in a series if tweets on his official twitter handle (@bukolasaraki) noted that such act by the Kwara State House of Assembly does not only constitute a threat to our democracy, it also undermines the independence of the legislature as an arm of government.
In his words “As a former head of the federal legislature, I find it very disturbing that a legislator in my home State, Hon. Jimoh Agboola, has been suspended by the House of Assembly for the simple reason that he criticised the executive on a radio programme“.
“The legislator involved, Hon. Agboola, is a member of the opposition party. As such, his job is to assess, critique, and proffer alternatives to government policies“.
The former Senate President further added that “this action by the Kwara State House of Assembly does not only constitute a threat to our democracy, it also undermines the independence of the legislature as an arm of government.
“It is unprecedented, not only in our state but across the country. In this regard, I call on those behind Hon. Agboola’s suspension to reverse their decision immediately” he noted.
He however urged Hon. Agboola to remain strong and steadfast during this difficult time.
“He should know that posterity is there to record and judge his efforts.” Saraki said540
