Saraki opens up on confrontation with presidency, says Senate’s refute of some Buhari’s appointees devoid of personal agenda

The refusal of the 8th National Assembly to confirm some President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointee was because the 8th Assembly wants the best for Nigerians.

Responding to a tweet by the publisher of Ovation, Dele Momodu on Wednesday, the Chaiman of the 8th National Assembly, Bukola Saraki, uncovered his confrontation with the Presidency and explained why the lawmakers refused to confirm some of President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment.

According to him, the Senate’s refusal to confirm Buhari’s appointees was “never about a personal agenda.”

The former Kwara State governor said all decisions taken by the National Assembly under his watch we’re in the interest of the country.

Saraki further disclosed that the Senate “did our due diligence”, hence the reason for refusing the confirmation. He added that the NASS under him was focused on how to tackle the security challenges in the country.

“When we didn’t confirm certain appointees, it was because we did our diligence. When we invited the IG and the security chiefs, it was because we wanted to solutions to the issues of insecurity at the time. It was never about personal agenda. It was always about Nigeria,” he said.

Saraki also stressed that there was no decision made by the Senate that was not in the interest of the country.
