A security guard, who was identified as Mallam Gambari, has reportedly lost his life after falling off a bridge into the river in Kaiama Local Government of Kwara State.
The security guard, who worked with a construction company until his death, fell from the makeshift bridge into the river around 6AM on Sunday. His remains was retrieved after it was swept to the river bank.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Babawale Zaid Afolabi told newsmen: “Mallam Babangida of Tunga Rijawa village fell into the Moshe Bridge and died. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday.
“The deceased was a security guard at Turning Point Construction Company and while he was going home after closing from work as he was trying to cross the bridge, he fell into it and died.
“As a result of the heavy rainfall, the river wave pushed the ladder away and he fell in to the river. But his dead body was later found beside the river,” Afolabi added.
He advised residents of the area to be very careful and watchful especially during downpours to avert recurrence of such incidents in the future.112
