UNILORIN sets to appoints 99 new Professors despite protracted ASUU strike

The University of Ilorin is set to appoint 99 new professors despite 9 months of ASUU strike. The recommendation for promotion of the Professors was made by the Appointment and Promotions Committee (A&PC) of the institution.
The recommendation was made known to the public through the institution’s weekly bulletin of that the A&PC has recommended the promotion of 99 lecturers to the professorial cadre.
Of the 99 recommended academics, 53 will become professors while 46 will be promoted to Reader’s cadre. The bulletin states that the list of the academics showed that the Faculty of Physical Science has the largest number of new professors with 10 former Readers moving up the academic ladder.
“The Faculty of Clinical Sciences has seven new professors, the Faculty of Agriculture has five new professors and the Faculty of Law, Life Sciences and Social Sciences have three new professors each. Also, the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Engineering, Management Sciences, and Veterinary Sciences have two each” it explained.
The publication noted that Faculty of Agric and Faculty of Arts have one Reader each while the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Sciences have one and nine Readers respectively.
Other new Readers and their faculties include: Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Faculty of Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Law, Management Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Veterinary Medicine
The recommendation is however subject to ratification of the University Governing Council.
