“We are working on improving Teachers’ welfare” says Kwara State Governor

The Kwara State Governor as reinstated his commitment at improving the Welfare of Teachers in the State.

This statement was relayed to the Teachers at the program marking the 2020 World Teachers Day organised by the National Union of Teachers, NUT Kwara State Wing in Ilorin.

While speaking on behalf of the Governor, the Deputy Governor Mr Kayode Alabi urged the teachers to reflect and adapt to the challenges brought to the global economy by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the need to key into virtual teaching techniques.

According to the Press Statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor Modupe Joel, AbddulRazaq added that his administration is spending a lot to reposition schools across the State and stressed that the welfare and training of teachers would receive similar attention to improve their national ranking.

Also, the NUT Chairman, Kwara State Wing, Comrade Olu Adewara appreciated the notable achievements of the government since assumption of office especially in the education sector which he said even “the blind can see” across the state.

He appealed to the Governor to address the new minimum wage, delayed promotion and financial backup, salary disparity with their Teaching Service Commission counterparts, non-remittance of National Housing fund deductions, reinstatement of “sunset workers, among others.

The programme featured a lecture titled ” Teachers Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future” by Dr Adeyemo Adeyemi as well as goodwill messages from the representatives of the Teachers’ Registration Council, Nigeria Labour Congress, All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools and other stakeholders in the education sector.
